This is such a fun and creative take on Minesweeper! I think it’s cool that doing well in the minesweeper part of the game gives you a leg up to get yourself out of trouble when you screw up and have to fight.

Question: I’ve noticed a couple times that tiles with the number 4 trigger kraken battles when unearthed. Is this intentional?

TheSailorDev responds:

I am glad you enjoyed it. I wanted to create something simple enough that I would be able to finish the game but also try and make it enjoyable.

The 4+ tiles in pink are tiles that COULD trigger a Kraken battle if you haven't flagged the bomb tiles correctly before opening the 4+. It was a way of trying to really make you think while playing.

Tiny quality of life thing: I’d like a button to back out of a game mode so I can select another one. Other than that, I’ll keep playing and see what I find!

Edit: Didn’t know that was clickable.

St4rryQueen responds:

The main menu button is in the pause menu, which is accessible by clicking the BounceCoin icon whilst playing a game.

Berg!

I'm surprised this doesn't have a front page, it's very polished and I love how thought out the mechanic is.

Edit: Front paged now. My wish came true!

TheBurntToast responds:

thank you :)

Gameplay wise, this is really solid! I don't have enough knowledge to comment on the auto-attack, but everything works together pretty well I think. Dodge is really useful, especially with the big dude from the gravestone that I kept triggering by accident.

I like the art style and general theme, but I think that your GUI is at times a bit too minimalist - I'd appreciate landmarks being marked on the minimap once I've seen them before, as well as more introduction to what some of these things mean. I also don't know what the heck the shopkeeper does, since I don't think I actually received the item I bought?

Also unsure whether looping back to the beginning and continuing the exact same order makes sense narratively. I'll think about it. Bosses aren't scaling very well to higher difficulties, as most of their difficulty lies in their attack patterns and how easy/hard those are to avoid.

I'll be sure to update my review as I discover more stuff!

ErikSwahn responds:

Thank you! A great idea indeed about the landmarks on the map. The merchant spawns a bag on the ground when you buy an item, so just pick it up. I agree it is a bit odd to repeat the same loop in a narrative perspective but the original idea was to make it endless.

The one thing I wish would be tweaked is how big the player is in comparison to the little corridors it has to get through. It's really easy to bump my head and fall into the spike I was trying to get over. I enjoyed the rest of it, though - even for something made in one day, the level design and graphics were pretty solid! Hope you had fun with this!

STATICOdev responds:

I did have fun with this, and im glad you enjoyed it too!

Good God, your games are brutal. I love them, though! (Also hey I know that second composer! :D)

This one in particular might not be my favorite, but it's easy to understand and difficult to master - a good recipe for replay value! Looking forward to playing through more of these and possibly beating Pixel Mania for real!

blit-blat responds:

Haha, yeah on reflection this game does need a bit more polish (like being able to jump as others have suggested). And yeah, I love the sound track for this one - NG has so many great composers!

Oh shit, I clicked the link in your news post and realized that I was playing this exact game on Coolmath two minutes ago. So I guess I've got a headstart on beating these levels! Haha!

My only complaint so far has been that the pickup and drop sounds are a bit loud and grating compared to the rest. Definitely going to try and beat this whole thing, though!

Steinberg responds:

Oh cool, guess coolmathgames is still really popular!

I was surprised when they contacted me to license my game for their website cause i didnt knew they were still around.

And you playing it there and then commenting here was a huge coincidence so it means they have a big playerbase still. Glad its reaching more people.

Thank you very much for playing and thanks for the feedback! Will definetly tweak the sounds a bit if i ever release a new version or update.

Holy shit, I finally beat this.

Definitely a fun game, it's one of a few titles I know where the name of the game is strategizing and memorizing exactly where you're going to make any progress before time runs out. Every power-up leads into each other very well.

bluswimmer responds:

Thank you!

So far I've been having a great time and enjoying the leveling up process. I'm just not sure how to use the sparkles on the paths! Are they supposed to lead somewhere? Or are there different sparkles I need to find?

Edit: Whoops. Different sparkles. Having trouble finding all of them, though, and my luck with the RNG is horrible.

Albe responds:

Try interacting with the sparkles!

Hey! I love this game so far, its visual style and gameplay are really interesting!

One tiny suggestion about the game so far is that I'd appreciate a visual indicator that a nap is needed, because otherwise it just looks like the game isn't responding to my keyboard input.

Also, how do I resolve the red question marks using the torch? I'm dragging the torch onto the question mark and it isn't working. (Edit: Must be a specific torch, it looks like.)

nimlos responds:

hey hey! thanks for feedback, maybe i should make message at the end of "day" permanent... never thought it could look like game just stuck.

and yeah, some red question marks could be near 2 torches but you need to find specific one >_<
