[Mermay day 12: MERMAZE]

I legitimately thought these were characters from a doll franchise movie, that’s what the level of detail and the designs and the fact that they’re MERMAID ROCK STARS makes me think. There is so much nostalgia infused in this and I love it.

Now I really want a show like this. And both dolls. And a movie.

Edit: OH it’s an actual thing?! Wow, now I’m intrigued.

thank you a lot tho! i find it interesting how fashion dolls have this kind of "look" to them so even when people make fanart in all their different styles you can often tell it's based no a toy. nice to know i nailed that aspect ^^

The kiss is drawn a bit weird, but otherwise it looks alright. Background looks good!

I wonder if you could put Angel and Flower next to each other to see if there’s ways you can differentiate their designs more. (Maybe hair color might help? I also noticed they’re all blonde.) I’d also recommend trying to ask yourself some character development questions about the relationship, to make it feel deeper and not just like something you drew for visual appeal.

Newgrounds has ruined me. The first thing I thought was that she looks like Nene. I unfortunately don’t get the reference.

[Mermay Day 8: Mother]

That's actually genius that whoever did the prompts put "Mother" as the prompt on Mother's Day.

I love the colors and style here. They make it seem so peaceful. Just a mom hanging out with her kid, with another on the way.

(And if anyone does make weird comments, my advice is that "acting creepy" is a legitimate reason to report reviews and get closer to having a shiny bronze whistle like mine!)

haha i felt like it was kind of corny and on the nose, but it did make deciding on the drawing pretty easy!

i thankfully haven't had issues so far, but in the past whenever i did "motherly" themes in my art i always got One Guy being gross lmao so with any luck, i won't need to earn a whistle this go around >:3

Beautiful colors and I love the jellyfish motif. Jellyfish space buns are the absolute best idea for mermaid design ever.

I love how you based her off of a real-life symbiotic relationship in the ocean! The colors are also really pretty.

thanks! i also considered those little birds that clean stuff out of crocodile teeth, but couldn't pin down how to depict that as easily. i'm kinda glad i went with this idea, though, the anemone arms were fun to draw ^^

I understand the feeling. Sometimes I try to replicate an image in my head without having any real plan and it gets really difficult.

This could totally be part of someone's makeup branding. You should advertise your services to people looking to have a mascot with this same type of vibe.

it's a struggle man, i gotta be better about test running my shit before committing it to paper i always end up making more problems for myself when i don't lol

i appreciate it! most places looking for that sort of thing have weird scary contracts though, and while i know i have the skills, i don't yet have the network to advertise myself like that (not meaningfully anyway).

She looks like if a Disney mermaid was a jazz singer. I absolutely love the vibe.
