So you've got your pencil and paper or your software of choice in front of you and you know you want to draw. But for whatever reason, you're not motivated to start working on any big artworks yet. Even warmup sketches feel daunting. That's okay! We can work with that! Often I find the answer is to just do a little doodle and get into the groove that way.
So then what will it be? Usually when I need something simple to draw like that, I just do the Dealer from Buckshot Roulette. So I thought: why not expand on that and show you how to do simple little horror doodles to get started drawing. This tutorial is modeled on drawing books I had as a kid, which had no words to explain the drawings but instead showed each step by different line colors.
I was almost going to be self-indulgent and add Theta to the list instead of Hélio, but I felt like it'd be even better to work in another horror game shoutout. Technically this represents three of the four interviews I've done so far (I'm not sure what would've made sense to draw from Greener Grass Awaits). Of course it would - I only do those interviews for games I really care about. (One day I'll try to score an interview with Miro Haverinen. One day...)
Anyway, enough rambling. If you give these a try, feel free to link me to the results! I'm not expecting to win the jam, I just want to put this out there as a little bit of help to struggling artists. As always, if you're having long-term struggles with motivation, come visit the support group and talk to some other artists who can help!
